Justifying Positions

The discomfort of defending a position or wanting to be right can be intense. Sometimes it feels as though we’ve got our back against a wall, as we justify an idea or insist that we are right.

We all tend to have subtle positions that we think define us and make us different. It’s so easy to become defensive of these positions, and yet our protective responses cause so much discomfort, and even a sense of isolation.

But, what a liberating thing it is when we let go of the need to justify ourselves. When we notice we are being defensive, and we make the choice to let go of that need to be right, the peace that is revealed is such a beautiful thing.

Whenever you notice you are caught defending, or justifying yourself, gently let it go. Release the need to be right and notice the harmony that follows, and the space that is created.
